Dangerous flaw in block member system

I would imagine that this site behaves like other sites - you can add an admin to your block list, but it doesn't block them.

I guess staff won't pay attention to me unless I have a diamond next to my name
I think if you post this in Help and Support or PM a meember of the staff, they will pay attention.

Brilliantboy, I was just re-reading your original post. It is a little more vague than I had thought on first read. Are you upset that the blocker is using forums to spread disinformation about you specifically, or are you just upset that the blocker is using forums to post what you believe are false ideas and you are upset because you can't post you own countrepoint?

I'm concerned about the latter obviously. I couldn't care less what some random person on an internet forum says about me personally.
It's when they insist on spreading misinformation and presenting opinion as cold, hard, irrefutable fact that things start to err into dangerous territory
When I click on a thread that purports to be an intelligent discussion on a topic, I expect to be able to read both sides of the debate, not just what the thread creator wants me to read. It's censorship in a sense.

I think you may be placing too much stock in the idea that the average forum reader is such an impressionable mind. Chess folk tend to be intelligent people. I think anyone who is willing to accept some random persons forum post as absolute truth deserves their lot of being tricked. You could tell me all day that the king can hop five squares a move, but unless I am willing to let go my critical mind and think for myself, I will see past the foolishness of such an arguement. It is the lemming who is dangerous!

I've got some questions for the OP:
-When did this actually happen to you?
-Did people believe it?
-Did you lose friends because of it?
-Is the account of the person who did it banned?

I agree with the thread starter and the principle of freedom of speech in a public forum. The general public is too stupid to understand what is fact and fiction and people should have the luxury of multiple uniformed opinions on any given subject. Propaganda, whether true/false/fact/fiction, is fine but it has to be in an environment of equal counter-propaganda. The administrators can ultimately reveal their bias with their censoring decisions since they effectively represent the owners of this site and have the right to decide which agenda they want to push, but individuals shouldn't be able to do this publicly. That's why the founding fathers of the U.S. created the electoral college. That's why I love Fox news and the Daily Show, and also South Park and Family Guy, and Capablanca and Tal. And if you all think "smart" people are not impressionable by repeated statements of anything over and over, then I think you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid, you are stupid...

not a good plan

This is not a democratic society, it is a website. The fact that people think it encroaches on their right to voice their opinion in the exact place they want to is kinda silly. What does it matter what people who go to a chess site think? The majority of people I've met online here are lovely people. There are also the simple minds who have nothing better to do than provoke and annoy those who will respond to it. By chance, the block feature isn't a perfect solution. I would rather have the admins responding to different things though, than allowing people who have blocked each other have verbal sparring matches in all the forums and having to waste time babysitting conduct. If your opinion is just bursting out of your chest, if you can stand the lies lies lies no more.... build your own castle of truth forum, or blog. I think part of the issue is that people don't want to just voice their opinion, because that solution already exists. The issue is that people want to voice their opinion into the ear of those who oppose it.

I agree...Person B should be allowed to post messages even though they are blocked.
P.S. Please don't block me.
What's the point of being able to block somebody if they can still post in the threads you start?

Like woodshover said, when you blovk someone, would you want them to be able to post in your threads? No! If they are abusing the block feature, just ban them! It's that simple!

But why would the moderators even care about these silly playground spats?
