How about they actually CHECK your posts before deleting your account? Haha. Plus isn't there a human verification to make an account?

Most likely because if that was the case then this forum would be littered with spam. The speed at which bots can post is quite fast, and in the time it took them to review even one account would be time enough that spam would be everywhere.

And they do not delete the accounts, only close it.

And as far as I know, no human verification is needed to create an account, though it has been a while since I registered, so maybe things have changed.

Oh.

One day, somebody's gotta somehow make a program that will end all spam everywhere. That would be very nice :D (wishful thinking)

How about an automatic warning before an automatic closure? Cops have both whistle and gun?

I think the warning is the suspension this guy got, the gun would be permanent close. But I get what you are saying, sounds reasonable

kco

nah "shoot first, question later"

Streptomicin

NO, shoot first, shoot again, shoot some more, and than take a look where you are!

kco

Usually when you are bitterly upset it's a good idea to give it a night's rest. However sometimes it is better that you tackle an issue when it is red hot. I decidedthis was one of those occasions.

I have received chess.com's response and am extremely satisfied with their positivity plus the fact they have acknowledged I did nothing wrong.

In their own words, "...triggering on your account like this was incredibly aggressive and............ Skand, it wasn't your fault this happened, it was our system that caused this..."

It is this kind of mature handling that has made chess.com what it is.

When my account was closed I felt violated, but still, in hind sight, I regret using terms like "jokers masquerading as programmers" for which I apologise to the programmers. Being in IT industry for such a long time and having produced buggy software myself, I should have known better.

My only question is - why is there a need for auto closure? Why can't they manually close a/cs of spammers once they have been reported by others instead of wrongly closing acconts of innocent people?

Because then  chess.com forums would be littered with spam before chess.com  staff had a chance to step in.

ThreeNailz

Great conclusion, Skand. Cheers!

InnocentHALO! I'M HAVING TROUBLE, inviting members to my group, plus creating matches and tournaments.TOM, WE ARE THE WORLD;Kiss

easymatrix

What about sending a warning mail before taking such actions?!

Pircman1

Sorry Skand and Balachandar are talking total tripe. Chess.com make the rules. Read them OR weep!

Archaic71

wah, get over yourself

K2015

i suggest that somebody from the staff says to everybody which are the rules, then everybody can keep your account with no problems  at all. i dont suscribe that they are "poor" programmers, it is difficult to get the point that the filtering is effective and nobody get your account "bad closed", so the best way is to explain "mathematically" which are the rules.

MrMan2244

I've had this(similar) happen to me too.

Without any negative intention, I've been banned from commenting. Apparently communicating too quickly is worthy of warning and loss of privilege on this website.

You might think that a website with over 3M members would have a better system. This is complaint worthy.

Skand, I feel your pain. Though I might think overzealousness might not be appropriate in this situation. I regret the loss of your privileges(higher sensitivity in monitoring) and the possible stigma;perhaps chess.com will come up with a better system if we raise the issue?

kco

within in a reason.
