Total waste of money. I'd be astonished if the new site earns the owners one extra cent.
Express if you like or do not like the new version of the site

Yeah, 2.5 years. That's still one of my main gripes.
I think Martin mentioned (pages ago) the conversion from V1 to V2 was quicker.
it was overnight... next day even staff didn't know where things were...
The complete switch was, the beta lasted for a while. erik posted at one point a brief post on what happened but not a ton of specifics.

the site gains thousands of new members every day, no doubt raising significant amounts of new revenue.
It's also why long-standing members' opinions aren't worth a whole lot.
A couple of years ago i was looking around for somewhere else to play, fed up of the cheating that goes on here. I looked at numerous sites, all of which were terrible on the eye. Seems now chess.com has decided to join their ranks...
I commented on whether the money wasted on the veneer will translate into new revenue. I would be astonished if someone becomes a subscriber because of the new veneer. Absolutely astonished. There are tons of ways to make this site better, most importantly by creating a rating system as Amazon and eBay figured out fairly early in their business. All this stuff that is being wasted on veneer adds absolutely nothing to the site and certainly won't change any ones mind about becoming a new subscriber. Really the c question is whether it loses revenue.

v3 isn't just veneer. There are new features and it is essentially a complete rewrite of the code.
Most of the features that people upgrade for exist in v3 and people will still upgrade for those features.
They rewrote the code for this? Even a bigger waste of money. Displays zero understanding of what would encourage new subscriptions. Amazon gets it. It's all about value.

I'm resigned to playing elsewhere from now on -- I cannot stomach the revealing of the opening name to players in live. I consider that a cheat, sorry.
Everything else I could care less about...except forcing desktop users to utilize a mobile paradigm and the removal of most actionable information on my home page. Oh, and having to click the damn bell for my notifications. Pfft. Ah, and the insistance that the editor has to load in the messaging system...gahhhhhhh!
Lol, ah well. It was fun while it lasted. At least I had the opportunity to SA THE POWER OF CHESS during it's assault on the number one position of the team match Leaderboard. And it was under my leadership that TPOC attained the number one position of total matches played...a position they'll maintain while I remain at the helm.
But hey, life goes on and this is only a website afterall. There's millions of 'em.... *bitter sniff* [grief stage five].

Huh? A compplete rewrite of the code? Didn't you say previously that people would like it because 75% of the program was the same as v2?
Which is it?
From what I've seen, it is no where near a complete rewrite. It looks to me like most of the core code was left untouched. The veneer was given a bad paint job in order to make a broken down house look new. But the structure remains the same and the essential issues left unaddressed. I really can't imagine anyone who has not subscribed before all of a sudden saying, Hey yes, now it is worth something! The play value, which I guess most players care most about has been reduced or remained the same. I cannot imagine one v reason why I would all of a sudden say now it's worth it based upon the new design. I wonder what the owners were thinking? Do they have any idea what it means to bring value and quality to a subscriber? It is the one and only thing hugely successful sites focus in on.

Why not both?
Do you seriously not understand how the code can be completely rewritten to provide the same features?
Because I didn't say the program was the same but that the vast majority of the features on v2 exist on v3. Are you just being purposely obtuse?

They grew the site to 16 million accounts, with tens of thousands of active members at any given time. The same ownership at the helm. Apparently they know what it takes to be successful. 9 years and still growing.
You don't have to believe it was a complete rewrite. And it is possible they rebuilt from some of the core code but it is my understanding, from following the upgrades, that it was essentially a complete rewrite.

A re-write of code didn't require a format change V3 man.
And I never said it did, now did I? The GUI had to be rewritten to support the new back-end and it could have looked like pretty much anything, as I have said a number of times. But you know that already and just prefer to be argumentative.
erik et al decided on what v3 looks like.
Anyway, Happy Holidays

Are you just being purposely obtuse?
More derision from above when someone disagrees with what is proposed...

Hah, that is funny. I have seen more derision from some posters towards anyone writing anything complementary towards v3 than anything I have posted. But, if they agree with your point, it's not derision, is it?
That said, have fun. I'm going to try and only reply to specific things here on out, such as answering questions about v3 and how to find things. All I want for Christmas is v2 to be retired

Without the old cadre.. which is most of the anti-V2 voice here, how does Erik, et.al., intend to re-populate the online/daily portion of chess on this site? Or is it part of the design to lessen the online/daily portion of games?
New users are not finding 'clubs' at the same rate they found 'groups' in V2. That is obvious.
