iOS 8 Update

I cannot give enough praise for the new update, you guys thought of everything and now I can watch live chess games on my phone without using safari.
It's fast and the themes are great
Can't think of anything you could add except for news also being added as a heading as long as articles. 

Really like the new app.  Will echo comment above regarding news - would be a nice addition.

What I really would like to see though is information regarding what tournaments/matches daily games may be from.

Yes, it's great, for the firs time, it's almost like the html-version!

Two little suggestions would make it even better then the browser itself.

1) Add the master database to the section "play against the computer".

2) Make it possible to load more (all, if possible) finished games to the "recent game" list. One could then study all one's old games everywhere, everytime thanks to the in-built engine.

So glad you guys are liking it - it is a lot of *different* to swallow at once! :)

New features and improvements are on the way...

- News, certainly

- More visibility on game "source" (Tournament) definitely one we're discussing

- Explorer for Computer = a good idea

- Access to ALL past games will require some work, but we do want to have more of a robust "Archive" feature there at some point...

DeepGreene, if I was a lawyer I’d suggest to settle for a compromise for the time being. Just add the distiction between „online games“ and „live“ to the display list of the finished games. This would already double the amount of games visible.

I have a problem. When I choose to play an unrated game, it plays rated. I'm not sure which way the setting should be, but I tried both.

Also, why don't you display whether the game is rated or not when you create a challenge and when you start playing? At least if you have made a mistake you can abort the game.

Not sure I totally understand. If you look at the list of finished games, you'll see symbols to the left of the result:

Calendar = Online/echess/Daily

Chess Clock = Live (Standard)

Lightning bolt = Live (Blitz)

Bullet = Live (Bullet)

So the distinction part at least is there. Not sure what the perfect number of finished games to load would be, but 20 recent games seems like a good balance...

Yup. Thanks, Mike. This one is a known issue that we've got to get fixed pronto. Apparently, the app WILL let you play unrated if you challenge someone specific, but something goes wrong with open challenges. :(

Love the new app. only feature I would like to see is the ability to choose color when making a live challenge. Pretty nit picky I know but it would be awesome.

DeepGreene is there any chance that the algorithim for "top game" will be updated? Hikaru and another 2700 GM were playing and I checked the top game on my phone, and it was two 2200's and I know this is an oncurring problem for people way before the update,
but the update is really awesome.
One thing I liked about the iOS7 update, is when you clicked on a challenge for daily chess, before you could accept you saw his Win/Lose/Draw ratio, which was a way to see if his rating was justified and I'd like that to be added. 

The fact I can now do chess mentor lessons now is so good

Is there any chance that something like this would be converted to the "Watch" so we could watch say the top 10-20 games, I don't know how possible that is with programming but it'd be a great thing to add so we weren't limited to the one game to watch.

@ThebeJohnston - Good points. We are planning to replace the "top game" thing with a dynamic list of the top games so you can choose.

DeepGreene - thanks the new upgrade, it is outstanding!

I only have 3 suggestions / frustrations:

1) I really miss being able to access "Tournaments" and tournament information - please can you add this asap? It seems that the Android version has this already, as the old IOS version did...

2) For online games, the clock showing how much time I/my opponent have left to move is often incorrect (slow). I have some games with only a few hours left, but it says "1 Day". This is making me nervous that I will miss a game and time out.

3) What happened to the "Chess Clock"? There used to be a function where there was a chess clock I could use for OTB games. Would love to have that back.

1) We will be bringing this back, and natively instead of in an embedded browser!

I'm not seeing how to access the forumns on the mobile app.  Can you enlighten me ?

Is there any date on an update releasing those features?

Love chess.com, love the new app, but for me the biggest thing that's missing is the "set up position feature" on the computer. I used to check lines and variations, and now I cant... Definitely bring that one back!
