Music in Groups!

Dear staff, would it be possible in the near future to have a music feature added to groups. To have a site linked to chess.com that SA's can access a database of songs they wish to have playing when members visited the group, mainly on the homepage and notes page. And to add the control of being able to turn off or on the music at anytime under ALERTS. :))

I am in complete agreement. It certainly shouldn't be a problem.

Moreover with several groups that I run are based on music/bands and it is an IMPORTANT part of the identity of the group. I could say the same about the unavailability of uploading videos from say youtube !!!

My members can post the address but we cant discuss other issues and also in several forums I have done chess traps...I cant UPLOAD the video to show the game !!!!

I think we are mature enough to use music and upload videos, especially in our forums. Whilst we all love chess, the teams tend to cater for specific tastes and for the youth that tends to be predominately music.

I would like a response to this sensible suggestion by "chess_kebabs" and look forward to your encouragement in this simple matter or feeble excuses.

Thank you for listening to NOT only our concerns but OUR team members as well.

Hi Virdi. You can actually upload videos in forums. When in youtube click on SHARE / EMBED for the video you want to grab, then copy the long embedded code (make sure you have no boxes ticked), then go to the forum and paste that code, then click PREVIEW, then EDIT, then POST COMMENT..

I think not only music groups would enjoy this feature. Some groups may not want to have any music playing and they can choose not to. But it would be a great feature here as who doesn't like music? And like I said, members can have the option to switch it off if they choose, or they can always just turn the sound down or up whenever they need/want to.

chess_kebabs

yes it is possible.. did you follow the exact instructions I posted ?

chess_kebabs

No, it should work on match forums. I've seen others post music videos there.. Let me try.

chess_kebabs

Posted. :)

Just double check you don't have any boxes ticked in youtube.. and that you copy the long embeded code, after clicking on SHARE then EMBED. If you copy the short code after only clicking on SHARE then it won't work. Or if you have any boxes ticked it also won't work. :)

then paste, preview, edit, post comment.

Its a great idea and I have wondered about the exact same thing before. I mean its already done in places like pandora, jango, lastfm and so on so why not chess.com. I can see it now, the radio station with a twist.. Radio chess.com .. the station that plays music and chess and I would add a lol because it sounds funny but its actually a cool idea. If there are no legal complications to stop the idea, then it would only be the limitations of chess.com staff in not providing this wonderful thing to us!

chess_kebabs

I was more thinking of chess.com setting up a database of songs or giving us access to an outside site affiliated with chess.com that SA's can select  from a range of genres, e.g. classical, rock, jazz, blues, heavy metal, soft metal, etc.

RumbleTumble

Yes, I wasn't trying to be sarcastic Babs its a great idea however it would or could be done. I must admit though it has given me the giggles :) It just sounds funny but its actually a super idea and as I said one I have wondered about my self on several occasions!

chess_kebabs

where did I show I thought you were being sarcastic anywhere Geoff?

RumbleTumble

You didn't Babs but I thought just in case you did think it. As for some reason it has made me laugh :) I don't know why but it happens to us all sometimes lol.

chess_kebabs

What happens to us sometimes?

Metastable

I get where you're coming from, but find unwanted music is one of those things that can really turn me off a website. I would find this kind of annoying. I usually have my own music playing, and anything that plays over this bothers me - even the three-note chime that some programs play with their splash screen when they open is irritating when I have tunes going.  If this were to be implemented,  I would want a global kill button; I wouldn't want to have to mute this individually thirty odd times, once for every group I'm in.

chess_kebabs

Metastable, did you not read the part I said you would have the option to turn off the music under ALERTS?

RumbleTumble

That we get the giigles Babs :) @Metastable yes good point but it could be turned off in alerts as Babs mentioned before.

RumbleTumble

I see his point by a global switch off button though.. for those in like a 100 groups.. individual manual switch off alerts would be a headache lol

M_A_T_I_N

THAT IS GOOD IDEA!!!!!!

chess_kebabs

We need to get him to join chess.com!

chess_kebabs

Glad you like the idea Mostafa!
