Hi guys, can you try making your browser window wider to see if that helps at all?
the ad didn't even show up in mine
wider browser window won't fix it.
they need to adjust the css to acomodate the new ad placement, or revert to the previous version.
and as a side not, its pretty unprofessional to change the code and not fully test it. BUT it could not even be the fault of chess.com, it could be the advertiser.
as you can see in the screenshot
made the board smaller and it works

What size were you on before and what size did you change it to? I'll definitely let our team know about the issue.
it was on huge and I changed it to small

Okay, So I've tried it on a basic account on firefox, safari and chrome and I'm still not seeing it like you guys are. The below board size is "Huge". So I'll let our team know about the issue and see what we can do. Sorry for the trouble again!
Just as a precaution- do any of you have any plugins or extensions on your browser? Are you using any browser zoom features?

Temporary Solution
If you go to your online chess settings here:
http://www.chess.com/home/echess_settings
Make sure that you have algebriac coordinates set inside the board (or off), and that should bring the board next to your ad rather than below it.
I've also let our team know about the issue. Sorry for the trouble!
For those who prefer to keep their coordinates outside the board I have made a small bookmarklet that fixes the layout. You can install it from here

(It is a very simple, quick fix; If you click it while browsing a site other than chess.com (or on other chess.com pages) it may mess up the layout and you'll have to reload the page :) )
Yes, that's terrible! Uggh, I have the same problem as Rookheight.
Now I changed my board to "Small" instead of "Default", but it's annoyingly little...
Use adblock plugin!
Guys, it doesn't have to do with adblock.Adblock just makes the ad white, but it's still there!!
My main problem is that even I set the board on Huge, my board is still small.And it's very frustrating because I cannot play on such a small board.
I don't mind seeing the ad, but I DO mind because the ad is preventing the board to go bigger.

I'm disappointed at the decision to include long advertisemenets along the left side of the board for correspondence chess. I support ads in general to allow me (a poor student) to play for free, but these are distracting enough that I am tempted to return to another service.
Further, in some instances (such as the frequent "board is no longer current" bug), the advertisement now bumps the board a full screen down. Extremely annoying! Any remedy for this would be much appreciated.
