Players who don't finish when losing

I just played a game against a player named fittipali.  He had 8 minutes to go on his time and was in a hopeless position.  He turned off chat and sat there for the next 8 minutes without making a move.  I did not want to give him the satisfaction of winning on time so I waited him out.

This has happened before with other players. I think there should be a way to report players who do this and if they do it 3 times they should not be allowed to play.

Other another suggestion would be to allow players to save a list of other players who they don't want to play against.

You can already block other players. Check out the FAQ on blocking

I've had this happen a lot recently. While I do block people that do this, it seems recently quite a large number of players have been doing either this, or intentionally disconnecting and popping in just under the game abandon time. (i believe its around 2 minutes). This behavior is one of the main reasons why I hardly ever play rated games anymore. As a solution, I was thinking you could set up feature which flags people who do this on a consistent basis and prevents them from joining or creating another game until a certain amount of time passes as an incentive. It would not have to be a long period of time in the beginning and once its developed it would be relatively simple to graduate the responses for repeat performances.

Ah, I'll just stick it out, take my medicine, and hopefully learn in the process...

Sounds good to me!

How can you then tell the trolls from those who just fight 'til the end and in their stupidity spend the remaining time thinking if there might actually be a solution?

Yeah happened again tonight by jadaboy (1359). Honestly any 1200+ rated player should know they've lost with the exception of the new accounts where ratings haven't been determined yet. My blocked list is beginning to get rather long.

Hi everyone Smile

I think that disconnecting shold be considered as a draw, or, if it is technically possible to tell who was the player who intentionally (or maybe not) disconnected from the game, it should be considered a loss for that player.

As for players who wait too much (hoping to make the opponent lose out of boredom) it should be noted that other good execuses might exist for them - the player could have been engaged by another event in real life, a phone call from his girlfriend perhaps Wink , or maybe just fell asleep!

And remember guys, when playing, that you are playing for fun and improvement of your chess skills - no money, no fame, nothing else but pure chess experience; so if someone "cheats" or bothers you in any way, just ignore them and keep going...
