FM, IM, GM etc are titles in chess for which a dude has to work hard. Like Dr. in medicine. If someone is calling himself Dr. but is none, and gets catched, he can go to jail. It is unethical behaviour to wrongly use a title. It makes these titles be worth less if everyone can use them without ownin
