I was playing LiveChess several days ago, and I played a player lower rated than I was. I won rather handily; he then proceeded to challenge me to a rematch, and I accepted. He then proceeded to call me a "cu nt" and said my mother should be "ra ped;" he then allowed the game to abort. I responded by analyzing the game, posting the analysis on my blog and posting a note to inform him of this; he then posted the note "your blocked cu nt." Is there a process for reporting members like this? I don't want to deal with this problem in the future.

The word is proceeded Smile.

Sure, you can report the member - go to Help & Support at the bottom of the page, then Contact Support - there's an option to report abuse on the next screen.

There's no surefire way to block every one of these sorts of people from the site before they manage to spew an insult or two, however. If this sort of meaningless crap (which, incidentally, shows you completely shot his chess confidence with your play) bothers you, however, the best thing to do is to disable chat completely.

Thank you. I probably won't report him/her, but it's nice to know.

Yes, sometimes being able to talk and play chess with anyone in the world is not such a great thing.

Avatar of Ruby-Fischer

When that sort of thing happens I just say something like "Sorry your inadequate"

Of course that riles them up even more, but that just makes me laugh.  Smile

I must be warped...

I've only had one guy trash talk me, said that I was a complete joke. I pointed out that he got beat by a joke and he piped down...

I just reply ;; which might not be such a good idea;;

Just block him get use to encountering players like that the Internet is full of tomatos with no skills and chocolate milk shakers with extremely short fuses who don't like to lose.

just disable chat while playing....(if you want), n don't worry u're not the one who got something like that.. maybe mostly members experienced it too..

I take a similar sort of approach to you Cool

That's just my first time someone did this, and I was having a bad day.

I was mostly impressed by ingenuity of some players to insult people in chat by using intriguing tricks to avoid chat restrictions.

I just won a game. No previous commentary in the game or with this member. Check this:

blatherskite3: feel happy moron

blatherskite3: stupid mexican scum

blatherskite3: i'm not even trying

blatherskite3: and you still cant beat me unless i throw a piece to you

blatherskite3: idiot

blatherskite3: you mexicans should all be shot

blatherskite3: scum of the planet

blatherskite3: dumbest mother fluckers alive

blatherskite3: dogs are smarter and cleaner than you

blatherskite3: no i mean pigs

There should be a way to report this type of racist abuse.

What is wrong with some players on this site ? I started an ungraded game against my opponent by wishing him good luck in the game and he then said I was an asshole. Unbelievable.

Avatar of el_gato

Wow. Ouch. Yeah, maybe that's a tactic used to shake up an opponent or something.

I wanted to let whomever reads this know that Chess.com handled this very promptly. Within hours, a customer service rep contacted me to let me know they had closed that player's account:

Shaun replied:

Thank you for writing in.

I have closed this account. We want chess.com to be a place where chess comes first, and we don’t like it when people try to use our site as a platform to spread hate.

Please, if you see anything like this in the future, let me know.

I thanked them and asked if he could just open another account under a different name. I was told:

Shaun replied:

Sadly, they can.

However, if they do this, we have ways of detecting it. After a couple of closes (which isn’t usually needed) we can usually block them altogether.

This doesn’t usually happen, however, for which I’m thankful!

I recently played a guy who after 3 moves started telling me I was aweful at chess. I didnt really take any notice of it but then after move 11 when I was in a clearly winning position he started calling me  mexican scum and that all mexicans should be shot. I got a great deal of satisfaction when I informed him that he had confused the mexican flag with the Irish flag. This just shows how stupid these people are. He was so embarassed he aborted the game immediatly lol. The only reason these guys do this is to try and distract you because they know they cant win otherwise. If this happens to you just remember the greatest revnge is massive success. So just ignore it and beat them on the board.

the idea that a person is better or worse because of their country is idiotic, most people aren't full of hate.

Players (like the OP) who feel the NEED to complain to the authority and demand a politically correct climate are themselves the problem. If you cannot tolerate the words of another, you have the OPTION to disable the chat and move on.

Grow up, OP. Seriously.

Respectfully yours,
Courtney

What an stupid thing to say.  Nobody's asking for a "politically correct climate."  People cussing, insulting, and throwing racial slurs is a problem, not people who report violations of site policies.

Complaining that you get more crap than someone else doesn't somehow mean that nobody else is allowed to care if they're treated like crap.  It's pretty silly for someone like you to be telling someone else (especially someone seemingly calm and rational like the OP) to grow up.
