We all know you can create tournaments to be, 'No vacation time allowed" but why not be able to create online ches games with no vacation time allowed. What do you all think?

blackfirestorm

I think we are all entitled to vacation time for whatever reason. If you don't want to have your opponent use vacation time then play live is my suggestion

what i'm saying is to have under settings, "This is a no vacation time game" where they may go on vacation, but they'll still timeout on that game. PErsonally I hate it when someone is on vacation every other move and waits till the last second to move.

blackfirestorm

Yes but David this is their choice.

If you join a 5 day per move game then your opponent is allowed to take as much or as little of that time as they like.

As for vacation going on every other move we are all entitled to go on vacation when we want

I would prefer the addition of another time control:  game in 1 week, 2 weeks, etc.

Why not just make a two person tournament?

hmmmmmmm Then what you are saying is that its OK to take all the vacation time U want an be totally disrespectfull to your opponent????? All because U have TOO MANY games in the first place an CAN'T keep up with them.WOW sounds like abuse of a good thing for some people.Do you know how frustrating it is to be put on hold when you know there is NO good reason for it.

What about a person who uses the VACATION too DAMM  much like every other move because they are playing TOO DAMM MANY GAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in that position right now with one of my games an it's really getting on my nerves.

Seems like an over-reaction. Not getting enough action? then start some more games. I don't worry (or even notice, most times) about vacationing opponents or even those who "drag their feet".

Good suggestion.

We also have to remember that vacation time doesn't always mean someone is on vacation. I imagine the majority of people on this site are adults with jobs.  Sometimes we are not on vacation, but we are away on a work related assignment and just may not have time to check moves while away.  And since these kind of things can happen at any time, it wouldn't be fair for a person to "time out" because of having to be away.  I suppose you could have the option of "this is a no-vacation-time-used-game", but I would have to think that it would greatly limit the number of people available for you to play.  I personally would not play someone who had that stated in their conditions.

Id say that it looks like a good idea.

I think allowing tournaments with no vacation time allowed isn't a good idea. It's generally used by people who are 100% sure to have Internet access and they want to win games by timeout.

CoachConradAllison

perhaps vacation limits (1 week) tournaments

I was offered a 14 day/move game. I was hesitant accepting it, but then I checked his stats, and his average time/move was 2 hours. I accepted the offer, and our game was completed in 3 days.

The point is, all the information for making a decision is available to you before starting a game. See how many games they are currently playing, their average move/time, and their timeouts. If their stats doesn't look promising, you can choose not to start a game with them.

Waaa, another inane thread about vacation usage.

It's YOUR vacation. Use it as you see fit. When it's gone, it's gone.

(yawn) getting really tired of posters stating it's ok for THEM to use THEIR vacation, but when everyone else uses vacation OMG it must be abuse!

chess.com gives an aditional day on the 1st and 15th day of each month

Kacparov

When does it give 4 days to premium members?

dschaef

I currently have an opponent who went on vacation when he realized he was in a losing position, he has almost 3 months of vacation time... lol
