Another tie break question

Can someone explain why phatti20 has more tie break points than me please? It obviously doesn't matter much as we both have progressed but he list to the last place guy with a lower rating than the one I lost too, yet he's got more tiebreak points?? It doesn't make sense to me, I'm obviously thick & I'm missing something? It would be most annoying if it meant he progressed & I didn't though, so just need a little clarification. Cheers

Would help if I could post a pic I took?? Until I find a way of posting the picture I'm in group 6 of Lund Viking War 5

For every win you have, add your opponent’s group points.

Your TB = 4 + 3 + 2(1) = 9
1st TB = 4 + 2(3) + 1 = 11

At the time of the win??

It still doesn't make sense to me, how can losing to the last placed lower rated player be worth more in tiebreak points?

The tiebreaking system that chess.com has, rewards you for doing better against stronger opponents, NOT the opposite (which would be punishing you for doing poorer against weaker opponents). This tiebreaking procedure is used a lot in professional tournaments.

"manekapa" is right. For every win you have, you add your opponent's score. This tiebreaker is constantly being recalculated after each game (or as anyone's score changes).

So for you, it's 4(1) + 3(1) + 1(2) = 9. For "phatti20", it's 4(1) + 3(2) + 1(1) = 11.

Thanks for the replies guys, I appreciate your time in trying to explain it to me.

It still doesn't make sense to me though! I know I must be missing something so simple but my logic just cannot see it.

I apologise for being backward on this & I know it doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things but....

'phatti20' with the higher rating than me & I both won & lost against each other, I would have assumed that I would get more points for that?

My only other loss was to the 3rd placed player who not only finished higher than 'phatti20's other loss opponent but was a higher rated player too, therefore I would again assume that I would get more tiebreak points? 'phatti20 lost to someone that only got the one win!

No matter which way I try to look at this it just doesn't add up? I beat higher rated players (compared to me) & I also didn't lose to a player without a win?? Do the ratings not count in tournaments then?

why do you care about tiebreak points? to me it doesnt make any difference

Penguincw

"Jay797" Ratings do not matter. All that matters is how you do against other people, and how they did overall. Remember, you get rewarded for beating better performing players, because it's more difficult, therefore should be more rewarding. Gotta beat the best to be the best.

It's difficult to explain, but I think it makes sense, and it's the way it should be.

"smart57"

Some tournaments do use tiebreaking procedures, so it would matter then.

It does matter if you don't progress because of it!!

In this case you're right it doesn't matter but I'm trying to get my head around it & struggling too that's all.

oh thanks

Yes. But phatti beat that strong 3rd twice, so he got more points.
