Chess.com - How do groups work?

So, when you have tournaments with high percentage of people per group qualify, how do later rounds with less than that number per group work? Imagine, if you will, a 25 person tournament with 5 in a group and 3 qualify as an example (this example used as it fits the structure of a tournement I'm in currently). Assuming no ties:

R1: 25 people, 5 groups of 5

R2: 15 people, 3 groups of 5

R3: 9 people, 1 group of 4, 1 of 5

R4: 6 people, I'd naively expect two groups of three - but then everyone would be guaranteed to qualify and you're stuck with an endless loop. Does it switch to a 6 person group at some point for the final? Or does someone (who?) get a bye in their own group to avoid the infinite loop? Or does it switch to the top 1 qualify near the end?

According to this link, the number of players that advance to the next round in a daily tournament (round-robin knock-out format) is the group size divided by two, rounded down.
