wow. i had no idea! very interesting...
Corus 2009: Compensation
On Dutch Teletext there was a short text about the upcoming Corus tournament, where it was said that "De strijd om de eerste prijs van 10.000 euro begint zaterdag om 13:30 uur.", which translates to "The battle for the first prize of 10.000 euros (over 13.000 USD) will start Saturday at 13:30h."

However, the first page of that text (above is the second page) wrote that (translated) "With its average rating of 2716, group A remains in FIDE-category 19...", while the Corus website (and SonofPearl's Corus Preview) report that last year, the average was 2742, category 20.
I have added these links.
Eduardo Iturrizaga: " a round-trip ticket to Amsterdam, Hotel & Breakfast in Wijk aan Zee, plus $1300 appearance fee."
Corus A prize structure: 2005 "The Grandmaster A event has more significant prize money with first place taking a 10,000 euro prize ($16,000). Second place receives a 7,000 euro prize. Prize money exceeding 1,000 euros is given to players finishing as low as seventh place. "
Off topic but in addition to the article about Eduardo Iturrizaga qualifying for Corus C here is another about qualifying for Group C.
Added links to non-monetary compensation at Corus.
By the way Ivan Sokolov who chooses the expert prize will be at Gibraltar's Gibtelecom Chess Festival.
"The strongest field ever assembled for an Open Swiss will compete for £100,000 sterling of prize money, with £15,000 going to the eventual winner."
I wonder how they figure that that's the strongest field ever for an Open Swiss. Have they heard of the Aeroflot Open? If you're a mere 2540 GM you can't even play in the top group there...
Leonard Barden agrees Aeroflot is first. Maybe it will be Gibtelecom next time.
Aeroflot:

Corus 2008 and subsequent: Victory Bonus, daily expert prize chosen by Ivan Sokolov. 2009 2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003.
Expert prize replaced the public prize:
"Each day at Wijk aan Zee, a prize of Euro 250 is awarded to the best game played in the three Grandmaster sections. Until a few years ago, this was decided by a vote of the commentary room audience, but after several well-publicised rants by Garry Kasparov, who was frequently incensed by the public's choice of what he considered objectively inferior games, the so-called Public Prize was replaced by the Expert's Prize, judged by Ivan Sokolov."
Corus A prize structure: 2005 "The Grandmaster A event has more significant prize money with first place taking a 10,000 euro prize ($16,000). Second place receives a 7,000 euro prize. Prize money exceeding 1,000 euros is given to players finishing as low as seventh place. "
