Daily chess tournaments - what to do in 2nd round if my rating is higher

Does anyone have an opinion on the proper etiquette when playing in the second or further rounds of daily chess tournaments when one's rating has substantially increased beyond the original rating range of the tournament?

I ask because when I joined chess.com a few months back, I signed up to a daily chess tournament (1000-1200) at my beginning rating of 1200. I won through the first round, and the 2nd round is now beginning - I am now rated 1680 or so (probably about right for me) but my opponents are all substantially lower (1200-1400 generally).

So my question is: is there an established etiquette for dealing with this situation? Should I (nobly?) resign these games? Or play on? What do others do in similar circumstances? What would you expect your opponents to do? Any thoughts welcome!

I have always just continued playing. Usually, a number of the players have increased their ratings during the event. It has been a while since I have had that issue though.

That said, the time to withdraw would be before the second round started, if you felt compelled to do so.

Thanks for the feedback - that makes sense. Thinking about it some more I realize that this situation is only likely to arise for new members such as myself - once we have gotten to our 'real' rating we may go up and down a bit, but are unlikely to have the kind of dramatic increases we see just after we join ...

I was in the same situation, joined a chess.com thematic tournament with my starting 1200 rating and after three months am 1570. I sent a message to the tournament organizer (@patzer24) but got no guidance. I see that there are many other players in first places of the standing list with ratings like mine, but there are others that stay within the original range. In other open tournaments, I face  players at 1100-1300 that are very tough and I lose to from time to time. Any guidance would be appreciated, as there is no good way out. Best would be for the tournament director to put a cap that is fair to anyone (rather than people withdrawing on personal decisions)

On the other hand, I see this happening in chess.com tournaments that do not have a requirement for a minimal number of completed games. It could probably be avoided if tournaments require 20-50 games to ensure rating is stable.

I have seen it many times over, in fact I cannot recall once where the winner of a tournament is still within the ratings range. I guess it is now an expected outcome. I came to make peace with the fact.
