First, let me apologize if this question has already been answered. I searched and was unable to find anywhere that this was definitively answered.
Over the past few months, I have been starting to get involved in playing OTB in some local chess tournaments, which has gotten me interested in the prospect of playing in a larger, regional level event. I have noticed that unlike the smaller tournaments that I have played in so far, most of these larger events have multi-phase time controls.
For example, the 2018 Pittsburgh Open has the time control of 40/100, SD30, d10. I understand that this means that you have 100 minutes to complete the first 40 moves, and then you get an additional 30 minutes added. The d10 would then mean that there is a 10 second delay, of course.
My question, however, is would the 10 second delay be active the entire game, or just during the second phase?
