Edgard Colle was a Belgian player from Ghent and he died at a relatively young age. George Koltanowski was also a Belgian but with Polish roots and he moved to the US. They both played in the first half of the 20th century. If you would like to get an interesting lecture on this opening you should go to youtube and type the following: "Bastiaan colle koltanowski". This Bastiaan-guy is also a Belgian and he gives very interesting video lessons on off-beat openings such as the Colle.

Zuckertort feels stronger with the black bishop fianchetto'd. I've tried the colle and I always feel like it comes into the game very late in the traditional.
