Explanation of Tourney Tie Break Points

I have entered my first tournament and the group of six is coming to the end.  Can anyone tell me the order the tie breaker works?  For instance, I have 8-2 record and 29 points, the guy in second has one game left and going to win to equal 8-2 record.  Anyone have an answer?

I looked at your game =D.  It has to do with the guys you've won/lost against.  Because you lost against the guy in third and the guy about to tie you lost against the guy in fourth, I THINK you'll win.  So, ya, it just has to do with who you win/lose to.  I THINK.  LOL.  In my history of about 10 tournaments, I THINK that's what I've realized =P.  Hope this helps!

hey flying, wouldn't it be the opposite though, opponent has better record against the 3rd ranked player, but i have better record against 4th.  Could that be right?

This article explains the tie break systems better than I can:

Chess.com uses the Neustadtl scoring system.

The tiebreak method is explained in the tournament Help.

"A player's tiebreak score is calculated by adding the sum of the player's points they have defeated to half the sum of the player's points they have drawn against."

(Note: The table in the example should have John third and Mary second.)

Current standings - dmvdc currently has a tiebreak of 24. Assuming dmvdc wins then add 6 (aivarin's score) for a tiebreak of 30.

With the win dmvdc would have a score of 8 (not the current 7) so add one more to your tiebreak (currently 29) for a total of 30.

There is no other tiebreak so both you and dmvdc advance.
