You don't register as a US FIDE player. When you are a member of the US Chess Federation and play a FIDE event, the two get linked.
If you don't have a current US Chess ID, then you probably would just register under the Indian federation. Then, if you later join US Chess and you have a FIDE ID you would let them know at that time.
Hi guys,
I'm an Indian American who's about to play his first FIDE tournament this Sunday (March 27-31 in Delhi). In order to play, I have to register for FIDE either under the US federation or the Indian federation. I was wondering whether the chess.com community could elucidate the differences between the two and help me decide.
I'm most likely moving to the US permanently in a few months, so I feel like that would be the appropriate decision. However, it's much easier to me to just register as Indian. For that, they can give me the forms to fill out at the tournament itself.
If there's no big difference between the two, I'll play under the Indian Federation. Otherwise, I'd like to play under the US one. I would also really appreciate help on how I could register as an American FIDE player? This process is really confusing to me.
In case it's of any importance, I moved out of the US 6 years ago. This is my first rated tournament in over 6 years. (I used to play USCF).
Really appreciate the help in advance :)
