If you want a rapid tournament you can choose for one with a rating or one without. If you want one with fide rating you must hire a internationale fide arbiter. If you want a tournament without rating you must find people who will like to participate and you have a fun tournament!

hmmm I would like just a normal rated game but it sounds like that's a hastle so I might just join them

According to their info which you barely could find it easily on ios (iphone) :
"You must be a Premium Member and meet the following criteria:
Must have at least a 10% win ratio.
Must have no more than a 15% timeout ratio."
This means for free users you have no choice but to join tournaments. If you do that, you know the drill: you will always find 1800+ rate users that will eventually get all 3 awards (1st, 2nd, 3rd place)
Asking my opinion if this is useful: no. It is a waste of time.
Unless you pay almost $20 us$ a month, you cannot create your own tournament.

how do I create a normal chess tournament with 30 minutes per person? please respond asap! I would like to host one. thanks in advance!
