Why should a draw only count for one third? People complain about the short draws but that is part of chess, under this system someone that gets a draw against a much higher rated opponent after a long 5 or 6 hour game is punished with only a third of a point instead of the current half point which i believe he should get as a reward for the amount of work he had to do to achieve the draw against a higher rated player in a long game. Bottom line no system is without flaws so why fix something that isn 't broke
How Tournaments Should Work
- it is broke
- op's suggestion is reasonable
why you are bringing up the point of "someone fighting out a draw against a much higher rated opponent" is beyond me :p

Winning a game should be ''rewarded'' with 3 points after a long game. Draw is not a victory. Not even against a higher rated player.
Same format is used in soccer tournaments. It has made a huge improvement in game quality.
Not if you like defensive soccer.

Over the board and online.
Like it is: win - 1 point, draw- 1/2 point
Draw is the half of a win.
Like I want it to be: win - 3 point, draw - 1 point
Draw should be one third of a win.
That would make a win in chess more valuable and much more games would be played to the end (fewer short draws)
