No one joins my daily tournament 😢

I created a daily tournament the other day, 3-day move. I’m still the only player who’s joined. Why is this? The parameters are a little narrow but not too narrow imo; 1300-1800, 5% timeout max. Idk. https://www.chess.com/tournament/black-knights-tournament

It is indeed a slightly narrow rating range. And it seems to be a little bit designed so that You get to play against some higher rated players.

Personally, I never participate in no-vacation tournaments, so you lose me there. But others probably feel the opposite.

More problematic is the maximum number of participants. With so many participants, it takes far too long to fill up the tournament, and people want to get started quickly. It also takes far too long to run the tournament. Try with max 12 or 18. And be patient :-)

In addition, I think some people are intimidated by your comment: "Don't join if you plan to use all your time for every move." Why can't you use your time?

Good luck getting the tournament established!

Tolsted,

Thank you. I appreciate that input and I’ll go adjust some things in response.

All of that is very insightful and you’re quite right about all of it; It is designed for me to play against higher rated players, I only participate in no-vacation tournaments, the max number is very high (but all the other tournaments I see usually have 250 and this one has 192)…

As to my comment, I guess I’ll go delete it today but the reason is that, in three day move tournaments, it always happens to where all but one to three players finish in a a month or two and then 2 or 3 players take 9-14 months to finish, leaving me with no games to play (I prefer tournament games only because I don’t accept games with vacation).

Consider this trollish example; I had a game come down to king/rook vs king even though I set up conditional moves against every possible king move, my opponent still took 71 hours to move his king every time. I was making best moves and my opponent was good enough at chess to see that I had a complete understanding of how to mate with a king/rook vs king but he didn’t resign.

Right now I’m in a tournament and the comments section is packed with players who are annoyed that they’ve finished round 1 and there’s one player who’s only finished one game in round 1.

So called “vacation” is the reason I switched from individual games to tournaments. I can’t imagine joining a vacation tournament because I assume slow players would use 71 hours per move PLUS three months every time (per move, per round or per tournament, not sure, but would be annoying in any case).

Although it feels like these slow players are trolling, it’s probably just because they have an extremely high number of daily games going on so they’re not thinking about the position until the 71st hour. Maybe there should be a setting to limit the number of current games players are allowed to have in their profile. In the example I gave above, he had like 70 games going on.

At the end of the day, I just want to have a perpetual 5-10 games going on at any given time (without vacation) against players rated somewhere in that range and I’m having trouble maintaining that due to slowpokes in tournaments. Any suggestions to achieve this goal would be appreciated as well as you seem to have a good understanding of how these things work.

Two ways to try to achive this (they can be combined):

- Small tournaments. Make you own. The simplest approach is 10 person all against all. That works very well. And even a very slow player will only influent his/her's own games (and the price awards), but not a next round, because there is no next round!

- Team matches. Here you have two games per match against one person. A great way to ad 2 active games no more no less. It only comes with vacation, but then again it is only two games.

Thanks I'm going to do this, or something very similar at least.
