An 'open' tournament is one that allows a player of any rating to join.
I think a standard tournament would be one that has a slower time control, probably 15|10 on chess.coms live tourneys.

Just wondering what is the difference between an "open" tournament and a standard tournament. I'm rated 1050 approx for 10 min games, just wondering which tournament I should join.
