If everyone plays everyone then run it like a classic chess.com tournament. See https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444837-how-do-chess-com-online-tournaments-work-
You get 1 point for a win and 1/2 for a draw. There is a way to calculate a tie break in case there is a draw. This is a called a round-robin system.
The alternative is a swiss system - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament
In this, you have N rounds. If you have 8 people and everyone plays everyone (round robin) you need 7 rounds (or 14 if you play white and black). If you don't think you can get all the rounds in play a swiss system.
Hi. I'm hosting a little tournament with my friends, currently we're eight people. The idea is that everyone play each other twice, once as white and once as black. And maybe we'll do a final showdown of the 4 best scoring players to a play-off, it haven't been decided yet.
My question is if someone has any suggestion or advice on a score system for this tournament?
The tournament will be played over several days or maybe even weeks. And there is a chance that all games won't even be played at all. I'm trying to make the most fair score-system possible.
Any answer is appreciated. =)
