Tournaments and Vacation.

What do members think of vacation on tournaments? I dont think tournaments should allow vacation. If there is a hundred people and lots want to go on vacation this basically stops the tournament. Ive been in one now for 4-5 months and nothing is happening. If you are a free member you get to do one tournament at a time. I have since upgraded but theoretically could a tournament go on for years. If so once someone is locked in they have no other choice to wait it out unless they upgrade to play another.

When tournaments are set up the TD has an option to make them No Vacation. Even without vacation, tourneys can take years to complete, depending on the time control. Without vacation, people would time out in more games than they do now and some tourneys have massive timeouts.

I could be wrong, but if you not currently in a round, say you are moving on to the next round, I think you can join another tourney. And if you aren't going to move through, and are still in the tourney, you can withdraw. You'll lose access to some tourney points but unless you are high enough placed, you won't get points anyway and they really don't mean much.

Some of us like to move up the points leaderboard every year. All of my tournaments are no vacation, and I wish I could make matches no vacation too.

I never used to play in tournaments at all. I'm not really sure everything that goes with it. Martin_Stahl I never realized that it could take that long. WOW! Good thing they do not do that with World Championships. I am now in another tournament currently with no vacation. I'm glad I upgraded because if I had not I would never get to be in another, and maybe for years. Life is too short to wait that long for a online chess tournament in my opinion. It seems a waste of time. Good Luck and Thank You for your information and insights. :)

I think we do well to have access to hugely wide variety of tournaments, including vacation-permitted and no-vacation tournaments. I'm glad that Chess.com offers this choice. I have enjoyed playing in some of each.

I know it doesn't matter now that you are premium, but I think basic members can join another one if they are finished with their games and are waiting on the next round.  However,  I'm not 100% sure

One thing I forgot about mentioning is that basic members can join an unlimited number of Official Chess.com Daily/Correspondence tourneys.  Unless something has changed.

When I tried before they said I would have to finish the current tournament. Which for me..after 4 months or so is too long. It was my first tournament  and I'm ready for more. To each their own and each has it's pluses because at least we have the capability to play chess with people all around the world. Which is pretty darn sweet. :)
