Join KogniVera’s Checkmate League 2025 and compete for the title of KV Grandmaster 2025!

KV Checkmate League 2025 is being organized on the occasion of International Chess Day (20th July 2025).

Tournament Date: 18th July 2025 (Friday)

Open to all Associates!

EVENT STRUCTURE

The tournament will follow a knockout format. To reach the finals, associates must win all their matches across the following rounds:

• Preliminary Rounds
• Quarterfinals
• Semifinals
• Final

GENERAL RULES
Eligibility: Open to all Associates; prior registration mandatory.
Format: Knockout format
Time Control: 15 minutes per associate; use of the physical timer available in the office is mandatory
Colour Assignment: Coin toss or random draw

GAME PLAY RULES
Touch Move Rule: Players must move a touched piece (if legal)
End of Game: Checkmate, resignation, or draw
Draw conditions:
▪️ Stalemate
▪️ Threefold repetition
▪️ Insufficient material
Illegal Moves:
▪️ First illegal move = warning
▪️ Second illegal move = loss
Time Violation:
▪️ If time runs out and the opponent has mating material → loss
▪️ If both clocks run out → draw

TIEBREAK RULES
In case of a draw:
A toss will decide the colour assignment
An Armageddon game will be played:
▪️ White: 5 minutes
▪️ Black: 4 minutes
▪️ If drawn, Black wins

CONDUCT & FAIR PLAY

• No mobile phones or external assistance allowed
• Spectators must remain silent and not interfere
• Players must maintain respectful and sporting behaviour
• Disputes will be handled by the FIDE Handbook
