Veselin Topalov beat local GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu in round 5 of the Kings Tournament.

Despite some enterprising play during the tournament, this is only the second decisive game so far after Vassily Ivanchuk's win against the same player in the opening round.

Topalov now joins Ivanchuk as joint leader, and the pair meet in the final round with the Ukrainian having the white pieces.

In the other round 5 game, Vassily Ivanchuk held Fabiano Caruana with the black pieces.
