Sigeman 2011.jpgThe young Italian Fabiano Caruana seems to be one of the hardest working Grandmasters at the moment, and the number of his games doesn't seem to be affecting the quality.

Caruana currently leads the Sigeman Tournament in Malmo, Sweden with a score of 2½/3 after beating Anish Giri and Hans Tikkanen in the opening two rounds and drawing with Peter Leko in the third.

All the decisive games so far are below, along with Caruana's draw with Leko.  Last year's winner Hans Tikkanen has had the worst possible start, losing all his games so far.  Today (12 May) is the only rest day.

The standings after 3 rounds are:

Name Nat Elo Pts
Caruana, Fabiano  ITA 2770
Grandelius, Nils  SWE 2556 2

@Magikstone, he didn't: he lives in Lugano, Switzerland.

@Pavrey, Tikannen was in time troubles and he probably realized that was already loosing badly. So he lost his concentration and got mated. Or maybe he just preferred to close the game with a mate, since he was already lost.

Why do GMs play till mate. Hard to believe that Tikkanen did not see the Q move which mated him

Leko has looked rather toothless in his games.
