15 year-old Bobby Cheng Wins 2013 Australian Open
The 2013 Australian Open Chess Championships took place from 2-13 January at the Norths Chess Club in Cammeray.
The competition was an 11-round Swiss with over 100 players taking part and the winner was 15-year old Bobby Cheng (pictured).
Bobby is the youngest ever player to win the Australian Open title!
The former under-12 World Champion scored a tremendous 9½/11, beating GM Igor Khenkin (2659 Elo) along the way.
The time control was 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for remaining moves, with an increment of 30 seconds per move from the start.
