2012 Chigorin Memorial
The 2012 Chigorin Memorial is underway in St Petersburg, Russia. The tournament is a 9-round Swiss event taking place from 27 October - 4 November.
The contest has attracted a strong field in honour of the "Father of Russian Chess", with 26 players over 2600 Elo.
Top seeded is the Alexei Shirov (pictured), now representing his birth country of Latvia once again. Three other GMs in the 2700+ club are also competing: Alexander Areshchenko, Zoltan Almasi and Vladimir Akopian.
Rounds start at 16:00 local time (12:00 UTC) except the final round on 4 November which is at 10:00. The time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves with a 30 second increment from the start.
