2013 US Chess Championships

The 2013 U.S. Chess Championship and 2013 U.S. Women’s Championship take place from 2-13 May at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis.
The opening ceremony takes place on May 2, and the first round for both events starts at 13:00 local time (UTC-5 hours) on May 3.
The format for the main event is a 9-round Swiss with 24 players and a prize fund of $180,000. There is also a $64,000 "Fischer Prize" for a perfect 9-0 score, in honour of Bobby Fischer’s unforgettable result at the 1963-64 U.S. Championship.

Reigning champion Hikaru Nakamura, will not be defending his title as he will be playing in the Norway Chess 2013 super-tournament. That leaves Gata Kamsky as top seed, but championship regular Alexander Onischuk and new face Timur Gareeev should be strong challengers.

The 2013 U.S. Women’s Chess Championship features 10 players in a round-robin format and a prize fund of $65,000. Last year's winner Irina Krush will defend her title.
