The 39th Chess Olympiad is underway in Khanty-Mansiysk in Russia.

As usual, the opening round provided an opportunity for the lesser known teams and players to make a name for themselves by pulling off an upset against their more illustrious opponents.

However, for the most part Elo ratings rule and many of the favourites recorded 4-0 wins, especially in the women's competition.

{EDIT: IT SEEMS THAT MANY OF THE RESULTS FROM THE FIRST ROUND HAVE BEEN MISREPORTED ON THE OFFICIAL WEBSITE, SO SOME INCORRECT GAMES ORIGINALLY INCLUDED BELOW HAVE BEEN REMOVED!!! IT APPEARS THAT THE CORRECT RESULTS ARE THOSE SHOWN AT THE CHESS-RESULTS WEBSITE}

The full team results in the open event can be found here, and the women's event here.  You can play through individual games at the official website by following the links on this page.

Live broadcasts of the top games on the official site are supplemented with computer analysis.
