ACO World Convention: enjoy playing chess in Dubai

Between 6 and 15 July you will have an opportunity to play a 9-round Swiss in Dubai. The tournament, which will take place in the luxurious Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa, is organized by the Amateur Chess Organization (ACO), a new chess body for amateur chess players up to 2400 Elo.

Amateur Chess Organization

The Amateur Chess Organization is the new World Chess Organization for amateur chess players up to 2400 Elo. The ACO considers itself as a complementary organization. More information on the ACO can be found here.

Tournament details

The ACO World Convention, the ACO's first major tournament, will be played in 7 rating groups: 

A: 2201 – 2400 B: 2001 – 2200 C: 1801 – 2000 D: 1601 – 1800 E: 1401 – 1600 F: 1201 – 1400 G: 0 – 1200 

Each group plays 9 games according to the Swiss system. The time control will be 90 minutes for the first 40 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with 30 seconds increment per move, from move 1. The default time is 30 minutes. During the games all players will be offered free water. 

The ACO offers all-inclusive packages (including accommodation, gala dinner in the 7-star-hotel Burj Al Arab, half-board, free shuttle services and free internet) to all participants and accompanying persons.

Award-winning hotel/venue  

The games are played in the big ballroom of the award-winning 5-star hotel Jebel Ali Golf Resort & Spa. This resort has won the prestigious 2011 World Travel Award in the category of ‘World’s Leading Family Resort’ in Doha at the Grand Final of the World Travel Awards. Prize-giving ceremony in 7-star hotel Burj Al Arab

The prize-giving ceremony of the ACO World Convention will be held in the prestigious 7-star hotel Burj-Al-Arab. The ACO bears the costs for all for a luxurious gala dinner in the golden ballroom on 200 meters height. The prize-giving ceremony is intended to be the highlight of the ACO World Convention, making it a once in a lifetime experience for all participants including accompanying persons.

Atmosphere

The ACO World Convention offers each participant to play against opponents with roughly the same playing strength, as the tournament is held in 7 different rating groups. The tournament focuses on enjoying chess in a nice environment therefore no cash prizes will be distributed. The winners of each group receive trophies and medals.

Sights of Dubai

As all rounds start in the morning there is plenty of time for all players and accompanying persons to explore the legendary and unique sights of Dubai such as: the world's tallest building: Burj Khalifa (828 meters high), the world's biggest shopping mall: Dubai Mall of Emirates as well as the world's most exciting water parks.
