Adjournments Galore At The ACP Golden Classic!
The novel aspect of the ACP Golden Classic in Amsterdam was the re-introduction of adjournments into a strong chess event. The specially organised tournament is running from 14-22 July alongside the 2012 Dutch Championships at the Amsterdam Science Park.
The time control is 40 moves in 2½ hours followed by adjournment. On resumption, the players get an extra hour for 16 moves, followed by 15 minutes plus a 30 second increment for the rest of the game.
At first despite some interesting games being played, the players seemed psychologically reluctant to allow an adjournment. However, eventually they started to happen! Analyse the adjourned positions in the comments!
