After three rounds Michael Adams is leading an interesting field of participants in the Spanish tournament Magistral Ruy L?ɬ?pez.

Besides the Englishman, Zhang Pengxiang, Gabriel Sargissian, Fabiano Caruana, Humpy Koneru, Julio Granda Zuniga, Hou Yifan and Manuel P?ɬ©rez Candelario are playing.

The tournament is the main event of the Festival Internacional Ruy L?ɬ?pez, which was held for the first time last year, then in Zafra (Extremadura), birth place of Ruy L?ɬ?pez. (Because the tourney is a memorial for this Spanish priest of course.) Then, Gabriel Sargissian won with a fantastic 6.5 / 7 (performance rating 3021)!

This year the festival (4-13 April) has moved to closeby M?ɬ©rida. Still a bit far away for many of you, but a visit to the tournament website is a must - really, it's brilliant. They had it last year already but I'm still quite impressed, especially about the design. This year they even have live commentary by Leontxo Garcia.

Besides the main tournament there's a youth event, an IM round-robin and for the second time there will also be a rapid open called "Apertura Ruy L?ɬ?pez" (12-13 April) where the moves 1. e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 are obligatory.

Here are some fragments from the first three rounds of the Magistral:
