The first game of the World Chess Championship is underway in Sofia.  The players blitzed out the early moves of a Grunefeld defence, but have now slowed down to start thinking.

Topalov is white, Anand black.  Anand is ahead by a pawn, but Topalov has a lead in development and better coordinated pieces as compensation.

UPDATE: Topalov looks to be winning, Anand is in desperate trouble.
