vishy_anand_talking.jpgThe second half of the world chess championship match gets underway in Sofia today (3 May) with reigning champion Vishy Anand (pictured) leading 3.5-2.5.

The order of colours changes at this point, so Anand has the white pieces for the second consecutive game.

The challenger Veselin Topalov held Anand to a draw with the black pieces for the first time in game 6, so it will be interesting to see if Anand tries another Catalan in game 7.

If Anand wins again, he will be in a very strong position to retain his title. If Topalov can hold a draw, or even win then the match would be still very much in the balance.

Former world champion and prospective FIDE president Anatoly Karpov will be making the ceremonial first move today. As usual, the game starts at 12:00 GMT.
