Andreikin & Pogonina Win Russian Champs
The 2012 Russian Championship "Super-Final" took place in Moscow from 3-12 August. The format was a 10-player round-robin competition, with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves followed by 30 minutes to a finish with a 30 second increment from the start.
In a very close contest with relatively few decisive results, there was a 6-way tie between Peter Svidler, Sergey Karjakin, Dmitry Jakovenko, Dmitry Andreikin, Evgeny Alekseev and Vladimir Potkin who all scored 5/9. The resulting rapid playoff (15 mins plus 10 second increment) had to be delayed until the following day to allow enough time!
But finally, Dmitry Andreikin (pictured) emerged as the champion with a 4/5 score in the playoff.
