Bacrot and Milliet 2008 French Champions
The 83rd French National Chess Championships, held in Pau, finished on 23rd August. Etienne Bacrot (pictured) defeated Maxime Vachier-Lagrave in a rapid playoff to take the title for the sixth time.

Bacrot won the first game of the playoff with the white pieces and drew the second.
Sophie Milliet (pictured) won the women's title for the second time (her first win was in 2003) ahead of Marie Leconte, defending champion Sylvia Collas and three-time winner (2004/5/6) Almira Skripchenko.
