The big match finally started. Today Vladimir Kramnik and Veselin Topalov played the first game in their reunification match and they immediately showed good fighting spirit. Kramnik won but unfortunately this was because of a small tragedy on Topalov's side. In a position with a pawn?Ǭ†down but fantastic compensation he blundered away the game.?Ǭ†

Kramnik-Topalov Wch match (01) 2006

In this position Topalov played the terrible 57...f5?? on which Kramnik reacted with 58.Nxe5 Rb2 59.Nd3 of course. 59...Rd2 60.Rd4 is nothing so suddenly White was completely winning.?Ǭ†Instead of the blunder Black?Ǭ†could have made a draw?Ǭ†quite beautifully with 57...Nxf2 58.Kg3 e4! 59.Kxf2 Rb2+ and Black has a perpetual.
