This weekend was the second Bundesliga weekend and the most important match was OSC Baden Baden against SG K?ɬ?ln Porz. While Baden Baden player Anand was playing blitz all weekend in Moscow, his team mate Shirov did play, after he took a couple of plains earlier from the Russian capital. Beating Vaganian, he couldn't prevent his team from losing to Porz.

The match looked like this:

SG K?ɬ?ln Porz 4?Ǭ?-3?Ǭ? OSC Baden Baden
Vaganian 0 - 1 Shirov
Van Wely 1 - 0 Bacrot
Timman ?Ǭ? - ?Ǭ? Nisipeanu
Graf ?Ǭ? - ?Ǭ? Harikrishna
Kobalia 1 - 0 Vallejo Pons
Korneev ?Ǭ? - ?Ǭ? Nielsen
Van den Doel ?Ǭ? - ?Ǭ? Movsesian
Kritz ?Ǭ? - ?Ǭ? Schlosser

Van Wely levelled the score on board two and so the Spaniard Vallejo Pons decided the match with a very weak show against Kobalia. He threw away half of board and could resign after 26 moves. (see the game selection).

The day after both teams did their duty and defeated their opponents big time. OSC Baden Baden-SC Remagen ended 7?Ǭ?-?Ǭ? and SC Bann-SG K?ɬ?ln Porz was 1?Ǭ?-6?Ǭ?.

Now for a funny moment, in the category 'double double attack' or also 'the imposter deceived'.

Fressinet-Shirov Bundesliga 2006

White thought he could permit himself 38.c6?. The idea was that 38...Qe4+ 39.Kg1 Qxc6 wasn't possible because the rook on e2 would be lost. However, Shirov did play 38...Qe4+ 39.Kg1 Qxc6 and after 40.Qxe2 came the same theme: 40...Qb6+ 41.Nc5 Qxd8 and resigns.

Not all teams have played the same number of matches. The slightly unclear standings after the second weekend:
