Play Chess Against Tennis Prodigy Carlos Alcaraz
Chess.com is excited to announce the newest addition to our lineup of athlete chess bots, the Spanish tennis phenom Carlos Alcaraz. You can challenge the young prodigy on our Play Computer page.
But beware: Alcaraz will bring to the chessboard the same versatility and resilience he shows on the tennis court! With a 1000 rating and an active playing style, he won't be easy to beat.
Alcaraz is one of the most successful tennis players in the world, despite his young age. In 2022 alone, he broke the record for the youngest player to become the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world number one, as well as the record for youngest ATP year-end number one. That same year, he won the U.S. Open, following it up with a Wimbledon Championship in 2023.
A lifelong dream! 🏆💚 You always have to believe! I'm only 20 years old, everything is happening too fast, but I'm very proud of how we work every day. Thank you everyone for your support, from the bottom of my heart! 🙌🏻😍 @Wimbledon

The secret to his success? In parts, chess.
Alcaraz was first introduced to chess by his grandfather as a child. Since then, the Spanish prodigy has been using it as a tool to keep his mind sharp when playing in important tournaments. "[Chess] helps me to be mentally faster, to see the plays, the moves I want to make," Alcaraz shared in an interview with Spanish sports news outlet Marca. "In chess, as in tennis, the game can turn around if you lose concentration even for just a moment," he added.
Alcaraz was recently spotted playing chess at the Plaza de las Flores in his hometown, Murcia. But if you can't hang out in a public square in Spain waiting for him to show up, you can still challenge Alcaraz for a chess game. Head to our Play Computer page and try your luck against Spain's current highest-ranked ATP player!
