Carlsen Beats Bologan In Biel
Magnus Carlsen finally got to play his postponed third round game at Biel today on the 'rest day' of the event.
Carlsen had been due to play Alexander Morozevich when the Russian withdrew from the competition due to illness.
There was a lot of pressure on Carlsen to win with the black pieces in order to make up ground on the rest of the field and he duly delivered the goods.
Poor Victor Bologan has lost all four of his games since agreeing to replace Morozevich at very short notice. He may be regretting that decision now!
The standings after six rounds:
Name | Nat | ELO | Pts |
Wang Hao | CHN | 2739 | 13 |
Anish Giri | NED | 2696 | 11 |
Magnus Carlsen | NOR | 2837 | 10 |
Hikaru Nakamura | USA | 2778 | 9 |
Etienne Bacrot | FRA | 2713 | 5 |
Victor Bologan* | MDA | 2732 | 0 |
The festival also includes many other events including a Master Tournament, Main Tournament, Rapid Tournament and a Blitz Tournament.
