Magnus Carlsen continued his winning ways in Biel in round seven, beating Alexei Shirov for the second time.

Despite having the black pieces, Carlsen still managed to create problems for Shirov and provoked an error to win.

Both the other games in the round were also decisive.  Alexander Morozevich made his win against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave look easy, and Fabiano Caruana eventually overcame the resistance of Yannick Pelletier.

The standings after round seven:

 Carlsen, Magnus  NOR 2821 16
 Morozevich, Alexander  RUS 2694 13
 Vachier-Lagrave, Maxime  FRA 2722 7
 Shirov, Alexei  ESP 2714 7
 Caruana, Fabiano  ITA 2711 6
