Carlsen champ of Norway

Magnus Carlsen took the title in the Norwegian championship yesterday. He finally managed to beat his trainer champion for years Simen Agdestein, in the playoff rapidgames.

Chessbase already covered the story.?Ǭ†Obviously, they mention the second rapid game in which Agdestein managed to get a lost position already at move eight: 1.e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 g6 4.c3 a6 5.Ba4 d6 6.d4 Bd7 7.dxe5 b5? 8.Bb3 and because of the motif Qd1-d5 it's already over.

The first rapid game actually deserves more attention. Carlsen plays as we know the boy: everything gives way for activity, several pawn sacrifices and a nice finish. 6...e4 is probably a novelty and 11...d5! is the star move. At the end White cannot move his king because of ...bxa3 and?Ǭ†either ...Rb8 or ...Rd2 which leads to a won pawn ending.?Ǭ†
