Alexander Morozevich (pictured) successfully held Magnus Carlsen to a draw in round 8 of the Biel tournament.

Morozevich has therefore managed to draw both his games with Carlsen at Biel, which is no mean achievement for the reluctant chesser.

Elsewhere Fabiano Caruana got into a spot of bother against Alexei Shirov, losing a pawn and eventually the game, while Maxime Vachier-Lagrave also beat Yannick Pelletier to keep pace with Shirov in the standings.

Shirov and Vachier-Lagrave will meet in round nine tomorrow.

The standings after eight rounds:

 Carlsen, Magnus  NOR 2821 17
