The #1 ranked French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (pictured) ended Magnus Carlsen's undefeated run in round five of the 2011 Biel tournament.

It was a below-par performance from Carlsen, on a very sad day for Norwegians following the Oslo bombing and Utøya Island massacre.

Fabiano Caruana slipped to his third defeat in a row, this time to Alexander Morozevich. The game between Yannick Pelletier and Alexei Shirov was a draw.

Tomorrow is another rest day.  Round six is on Monday.

Carlsen lost his first game at Biel to Vachier-Lagrave
