After starting the Bazna Kings Tournament with three draws, Magnus Carlsen proceeded to win four games in a row to leave the opposition trailing in his wake.

A draw in round eight with the black pieces against his nearest challenger, Boris Gelfand, makes the young Norwegian a firm favourite to wrap up another tournament victory with just two rounds remaining.

Carlsen's live rating now stands at a colossal 2825 Elo.  Is Kasparov's 2851 Elo world record rating within sight?

The standings after round eight:

 Carlsen, Magnus   NOR
2813 6
 Gelfand, Boris  ISR  2741 5
 Radjabov, Teimour  AZE  2740 4
 Nisipeanu, Liviu-Dieter  ROU  2672
 Ponomariov, Ruslan  UKR  2733 3
 Wang Yue  CHN  2752
