On this beautiful Sunday we shouldn't get too much involved in chess politics. Let's not forget that chess is also just a beautiful game! An opinion shared by artists around the world.
?¢‚Ǩ?ìFrom my close contact with artists and chess players, I have come to the conclusion that while all artists are not chess players, all chess players are artists.?¢‚Ǩ? ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äù Marcel Duchamp. On the same day that we found some photos in our email inbox of a cow playing chess with a chess set made of cheese, we also came across a chess art exhibition in Dublin.Geert van Tongeren of the company
Schaakkunst (Chess Art) sent us the following, funny photos of a chess set created by the artist Berry.
"I like my Winawer but something's wrong here..."
"Let's just give him a nasty look, that'll do the trick"
"Wait, this guy is just copying me!"
For cheese lovers, Geert added that the white pieces are made of Edam cheese, and the black onese are Old Amsterdam. The artist, Berry, writes:
"Since I was a child I've been fascinated by the game of chess. It takes me to another world, for me a dream world. From there I "think" I can regain "control" over the "real" world. And then, thanks to the
Closet Grandmaster, our attention was drawn to the exhibition
The Art of Chess which runs at Dublin's Sebastian Guinness Gallery until October 9th. The exhibition is featuring work by top international artists using the chess set as inspiration.
"There are those who would say that chess is an art form in itself, while others would call it a science, a psychological battleground, a sport, or simply a game. In this exhibition, there are variations on the theme to suit all tastes."
