Registration is now open for the Spring 2024 season of the Collegiate Chess League! The world's premier university-level chess event returns next year, retaining its four vs. four team-based format and a $25,000 prize fund. The Collegiate Chess League is proudly presented by Susquehanna International Group, LLP (SIG), one of the world’s leading quantitative trading firms.

If you're a university student who loves chess and wants to represent your school in a fun and prestigious chess tournament, register your team today on the official NACE Starleague website.

What Is The Collegiate Chess League?

The Collegiate Chess League is the #1 online chess competition for college students. The Fall 2023 season featured a record-breaking 350+ teams from over 150 different universities around the world, all competing in exciting blitz matches with a 5+2 time control.

The tournament contains amateur players as well as chess professionals; GMs Awonder Liang, Benjamin Bok, and Grigoriy Oparin are among the recent participants. Teams are sorted into appropriate divisions based on their average ratings to avoid mismatches and ensure that everyone has a chance at winning their respective division.

Saint Louis University has taken the top prize home for the last two consecutive seasons—Spring 2023 and Fall 2023—bringing their total championship wins to three. Will someone be able to stop the powerhouse SLU chess team in 2024?

A breakdown of the prizes for the CCL season, with a $5,000 prize for the top finishers.

How To Register

Registration closes on January 14. To register, please complete the following steps:

Team Captains

Team captains need to complete two steps before the other players on their team can sign up:

  1. Register your team on NACE Starleague.
    • If you need help registering, check out this instructional video.
    • If your school is not on the NACE platform, you must make a request to get it added either by emailing Joe Navarro at joe.navarro@playfly.com or by asking an admin on the CCL Discord server. Please only do this if you are over the age of 18 and are the representative of your college chess team.
  2. Fill out Chess.com's registration form
  3. Optional: You have the opportunity within the registration form above to submit your resume (and your players' resumes) to the CCL's presenting sponsor, SIG, for internships and post-graduate job opportunities.

All Other Players

Once your team captain has registered your team, follow the steps below:

  1. Register on NACE Starleague and join your team.
  2. Sign the fair play agreement.
  3. Optional: Submit your resume to SIG for internships and post-grad job opportunities. SIG is looking to hire chess players to use their gaming skills in their careers.

Note that each team must have at least four players, with the possibility of adding up to four additional team members as substitutes.

The full rules, regulations, and prize information can be found here.

The regular season starts on January 20 and ends on March 9. The playoffs are set to begin on March 16 and end on March 30 (Division 1) or April 6 (all other divisions).
