Conclusion of the 2008 4NCL
The 4 Nations Chess League in the UK started in 1993 and has grown to become the premier team event in the country (The '4 Nations' name comes from the fact that the chess federations of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland are separate organisations).
There are now 4 divisions with over 850 players taking part and more than £10,000 in cash prizes.
The season runs from September to May and recently ended with Guildford Chess Club emerging victorious in the top division again. The club is so dominant that their second team finished second!
Teams consist of 8 players, and must be mixed sex (at least one female - or male!). Teams attracts big name players from outside the UK as well as the best of British chess talent.
The last 3 rounds of the 2007/08 season were played on the 3rd-5th May in Sunningdale, Berkshire. The final league table is shown below.
